_ QUICK LINKS |
_ HAPPINESS GETS RESULTS! |
||||
|
Contributed by Emotional Intelligence Worldwide |
|||||
|
Recent
research from positive psychology is proving statistically what most
of us already know - happier people perform better!
Not only that but they live longer, have more friends and more
money, are more creative, make better decisions, are more tolerant,
are harder working and more successful. What does it take to increase performance in individuals, teams and organisations? There are three components of satisfaction, which in turn link to performance, which you may like to consider: |
|||||
|
Positive emotion |
|||||
|
Happier people are more satisfied and tend to perform better. We know from experience that misery tends to make us inactive and self-absorbed. The quality of our lives are directly linked to the quality of our emotions – if you spend most of your life miserable, that is the quality of your life. |

_ FIRST WORD FROM ME |

ENGAGEMENT |
|||||
|
Welcome
to the September / October edition of Cliftons.Communication! Cliftons
Sydney Training Facility felt like a caged animal earlier this month
as the barriers were erected for APEC. Fortunately, we had little
disruption and a fantastic view of some motorcades as they drove
through George Street. Many people in the city took full advantage of
the long weekend and planned disruptions throughout the week … the
city seemed like a ghost town for most of the week! Also
taking advantage of the long weekend was two of our own, Daniel
Tyson-Jones and Kerriann Harrison. Daniel and Kerriann tied the knot
in a beautiful ceremony on Sydney’s Northern Beaches with family and
close friends. Congratulations to you both! Also
out of town recently was the Cliftons Senior Management Team who
travelled the world to visit our global network of facility
providers. At each location they ensured Cliftons are offering the
highest possible standard of venue and service. We can now offer you
the choice of more than 60 first class venues in cities around the
world. Your Account Manager can co-ordinate your training logistics
requirements from South America to Paris, Guangzhou to Mumbai, leaving
you to concentrate on your business and event content. Click on this
link for further information. We look forward to seeing you at Cliftons in the near future. In the meantime, enjoy the longer days and warmer weather … summer is almost upon us! KARLIE

This
is about how we utilise our strengths at work, whether it is character
strengths or personality strengths.
How engaged are you in what you do on a daily basis?
Have you experienced “flow” – where you are so engaged in
your task that time disappears?
How do you engage your team?
People who are engaged in what they do tend to perform better. |
||||
|
MEANING |
|||||
|
This refers to the amount of meaning people get from what they do. It is human nature to ask why … it is inbuilt and we need to consider that in business too. Do you serve something bigger than yourself? Who benefits from what you do? Does it make a difference? Do you and your team understand why you are doing what you are doing? |

||||
|
What
can you do to enhance these areas for yourself, for your team and for
your organisation?

_ MICROSOFT PARTNER CONFERENCE 2007 |

With
a business relationship stemming over six years and as a vendor
partner to Microsoft, Cliftons was recently invited to attend and
exhibit at Microsoft’s Partner Conference in both Australia and New
Zealand. With
an aim to support and assist other Microsoft Partners, Nick
Mihalopoulos and Stephen Cox of Cliftons attended the Hamilton Island
Conference earlier this month. “Successful implementation of software includes end user training,” said Nick Mihalopoulos, Microsoft Key Account Manager. “Cliftons
has partnered with Microsoft and their partners for over six years,
providing high-tech training facilities across the Asia Pacific. End
user adoption is vital with any new roll out or software
implementation – Cliftons is proud to provide the facilities for
such an important task to occur.” The
Cliftons duo had a fantastic time at the Partner Conference and want
to acknowledge key staff within Microsoft who have done a fantastic
job creating awareness of Cliftons within both Microsoft and their
partner community. Microsoft’s
Inaugural New Zealand Partner Conference was held the following week
and was attended again by Nick Mihalopoulos and Cliftons New Zealand
Country Manager, Cathy La Ville. Microsoft
put on yet another fantastic show and the representatives from
Cliftons were again pleased to be invited to such a prestigious event. “The
key relationships developed during our time with the Microsoft
partners is exciting,” said Cathy La Ville. “I look forward to hosting many Microsoft and Partner conference training or conference sessions in New Zealand, and congratulate Microsoft on such a successful event!" |

As
a national partner to AGSM, Cliftons is proud to hosts AGSM’s
Cocktail Reception at Cliftons Adelaide Training Facility. The
Cocktail Reception is a perfect opportunity for prospective MBA
students and HR / Learning & Development teams to learn more about
the AGSM MBA programme. It is also a fantastic chance to network with
AGSM admissions staff, current and former students. Dr.
Julie Cogin is a Senior Lecturer and the Associate Head of School of
Organisations and Management at the Australian School of Business.
Julie teaches on AGSM's full time MBA, EMBA and the Graduate
Certificate of Change Management. Julie
will present a brief overview of her research, which demonstrates that
most organisational reward systems actually inhibit innovation and
creativity. She will then outline some suggestions for aligning a
reward system with an innovation strategy. The event will take place on Thursday, 18th October at Cliftons Adelaide Training Facility. For further information, please click here. |
